2007 Zeitgeist Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
By now you’ve heard about the impeccable 2007 vintage in California. The critics are in agreement on this one. Near perfect conditions made the 2007 growing season one for the history books. Temperatures in the summer were consistent and warm, without the heat spikes that can damage fruit. Yields were moderate and berry size was small. A good growing season makes a winemaker’s job a lot easier and this year was no exception. We found fruit extraction during fermentation to be quick and thorough. This wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. 244 cases produced.
Tasting Notes: The 2007 Zeitgeist Cabernet is certainly a product of its time and place---the gorgeous 2007 vintage in Napa Valley. Especially dark, the color is near black and dark crimson at the edges of the glass. Hitting your palate with a rich density, this wine never lets up. It is well extracted, with dark fruit and bramble notes. Scents of black pepper and hazelnut intermix with floral and savory notes of jasmine and rosemary. The wine is serious yet smooth with chewy but delectable tannins. $60/bottle, $125/magnum.
